I do not think that there can ever be enough books about anything and I say that knowing that some of them are going to be about Pilates. The more knowledge the better seems like a solid rule of thumb, even though I have watched enough science fiction films to accept that humanity’s unchecked pursuit of learning will end with robots taking over the world.-Sarah Vowell

All New X-Men vol 7: The Utopians by Brian Michael Bendis (Writer), Mike Del Mundo (Artist), Marco D'Alfonso (Artist, Colorist), Andrea Sorrentino (Artist), Marcelo Maiolo (Colorist), Mahmud (Artist), Rain Beredo (Colorist), Marte Garcia (Colorist), Cory Petit (Letterer)

This comic opens with Emma Frost and Jean Grey training at Madripoor a haven of bad mutants where she fights the blob.  The artistry for this comic is different than the rest of the book and it is beautifully done with wispy, foggy brushstrokes.  She and Emma are becoming closer which is odd for both of them.

Then there's a section on the Black Vortex. Previously on the Black Vortex, an ancient race was gifted with the Black Vortex giving them cosmic energy.  They turned on each other and killed each other off.  Peter Quill and Kitty Pryde have just found out that the evil Mister Knife is actually Peter's father, J'Son, the deposed Emperor of Spartax, who has just uncovered the Black Vortex. They immediately take it from him getting the Guardians of the Galaxy and the X-Men to help battle the Knife and his henchmen the Slaughter Lords.  This forces Gamora to use the Black Vortex to fend them off.  Storm and Magik teleport them all to Spartax's moon and as they all argue over what to do, Beast and Angel submit to the Black Vortex. Now cosmically aware, the three set themselves above the others and take the Black Vortex intending to remake the universe in their own image.  Knife's flying fortress arrives in the sky firing a massive blast at the moon.

Magik manages to help keep them moving on Spartax as Knife keeps firing and Peter Quill finds a space ship for them to fly in off of the moon.  Laura is badly injured, though.  They are really taking hits until they get help from Scott Summers, the younger who had run off with his dad into space.  Laura heals, though is slow to forgive him for leaving the gang as is Jean whom he nearly kisses. They decide to divide and conquer.  One ship will go to Spartax's moon to look around and the rest will go back to save the children at the orphanage.

In the section titled Utopians, the X-Men are taking a break from space and are spending time on Earth training with Magik.  S.H.I.E.L.D. has become a problem and Iceman is holding back a secret.  S.H.I.E.L.D. is going after a group of mutants that are using an old X-Men hang out and Magik and the gang become determined to find out who they are and what they are up to.

This was a good comic. The Black Vortex storyline is okay, though it should get more interesting if it goes to Hala, which is the capital of Kree Space.  And can Gamora, Beast, and Angel resist it's temptations forever?  The Utopians section was pretty cool too with neat characters. I give this comic a four and a half out of five stars.
