I do not think that there can ever be enough books about anything and I say that knowing that some of them are going to be about Pilates. The more knowledge the better seems like a solid rule of thumb, even though I have watched enough science fiction films to accept that humanity’s unchecked pursuit of learning will end with robots taking over the world.-Sarah Vowell

The Immortal Hulk Vol 1: Or Is He Both by Al Ewing (Writer), Joe Bennett (Penciler), Buy Jose (Inker), Paul Mounts (Colorist), Paul Hornschemeier (Artist, Colorist, Letterer), Marguerite Sauvage (Artist, Colorst), Gary Brown (Artist, Colorist), VC's Cory Petit (Letterer), and Travis Lanham (Letterer)

Bruce Banner supposedly died killing the Hulk with him.  But there have been sightings of the Hulk around as Banner, who did not die after being shot in the skull and the heart with a special arrow by Hawkeye in an attempt to kill himself or see if he could be killed failed.  There has been some damage done to his brain due to the arrow. He has a harder time putting the pieces together and must depend on the hunches given to him by the green guy to figure out what is going on in a given situation where he is trying to seek justice for a person or a town.

These are short tales pieced together by the common thread of a reporter Jackie Mcgee.  First, there's the incident at the gas station where a twelve-year-old girl is gunned down in a robbery done for a local gang. Then there's a town with a mysterious wasting disease that claims those who greave for their family members who have died.  Then a young man holes up in a church taking a priest hostage who happens to have special powers that lead investigators to a hotel room where there are a dead girl and a message about a green door.

Jackie feels she is on to something when Banner's old college roommate Walter Langkowski, who once worked for Alpha Flight as Sasquatch, a being similar to the Hulk in that he was created with gamma rays but he changes into an orange fur ball, reaches out to her.  But what does he want with Banner or the Hulk and what is he hiding?

Also included in this comic is Avengers #684 opening sequence which recaps the recent events in the life and death of Bruce Banner that led to this comic.  I'm not a huge Hulk fan, but I decided to give this comic a try and I really liked it. The author included quotations at the start of every new issue that I really enjoyed as I am a huge collector of quotations and added a few to my collection.  But I really liked this Bruce Banner who is slightly damaged and must depend on the Hulk a little more than he likes in order to continue his mission to seek out justice in this world wherever he can.  I will definitely be reading the next volume.  I give it a four out of five stars.
